Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has confirmed a decrease in fuel prices following its monthly review for the period of April 15 to May 14, bringing much-needed relief to consumers across the country.
On April 14, EPRA announced that the prices for petrol, diesel, and kerosene would drop, driven by global oil price reductions and favorable exchange rate conditions. According to the regulator, the price adjustments are as follows: Super Petrol will drop by Sh1.95 per litre, Diesel by Sh2.20 per litre, and Kerosene by Sh2.40 per litre.
The new prices, which are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2023 and other relevant amendments, will see the cost of a litre of Super Petrol in Nairobi reduced to Sh174.63, Diesel to Sh164.86, and Kerosene to Sh148.99.
EPRA noted that the price cuts reflect the lower landed costs of imported fuel, particularly during March. This adjustment is expected to alleviate financial pressures on sectors such as transport, manufacturing, and households.
Fuel prices in Kenya are reviewed monthly and are influenced by global oil market trends, taxes, and import costs, with direct impacts on inflation and the overall economy.
