'This Speaks to My Heart’—Gachagua Lauds Tharaka Nithi Youth After Wamunyoro Talks

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua welcomed a group of youth leaders from Tharaka Nithi County to his Wamunyoro residence, on Saturday where he emphasized the importance of youth-led, issue-based political discourse.

Joined by his wife, Pastor Dorcas, Gachagua expressed admiration for the passion and clarity of the young visitors—comprised of millennials, Gen Zs, university students, and grassroots mobilizers—who shared their vision for a more inclusive and responsive political landscape.

“These young leaders have made a bold and inspiring statement,” Gachagua remarked, noting that their values align with the principles he has long supported. “Their approach is focused, people-centred, and rooted in the real challenges communities face.”

The youth delegation discussed a range of concerns, notably the new university funding model, which they described as inadequate and unresponsive to student needs. They also expressed their commitment to prioritizing the voices of Tharaka Nithi residents in their leadership efforts.

Also present at the meeting were Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Mbaragwi MCA Mathenge David, who echoed the importance of youth involvement in governance and policymaking.

Just a day earlier, Gachagua met with a delegation from Embu County, led by Manyatta MP and Young Parliamentarians Chair Gitonga Mukunji. That gathering, also held at his Wamunyoro home, highlighted his ongoing commitment to grassroots consultations.

“I listened to the people of Embu and reaffirmed my dedication to walking with them toward a more inclusive Kenya,” he said.

These back-to-back engagements underscore Gachagua’s strategy of building regional consensus and strengthening ties with Mt. Kenya constituents through dialogue and youth inclusion.
