President William Ruto has declared that he is prepared to face his political rivals in the 2027 General Election—and even accept defeat—if he fails to deliver on his promises.
Speaking on Saturday during a visit to Othaya in Nyeri County, the President told residents that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its pledges, but he is open to stepping aside if Kenyans are dissatisfied.
"Tumekuja kupanga mambo ya watoto wetu; tuwachane na siasa ya kubishana, tufanye kazi. Mambo ya siasa yako na siku. Si mlitupatia kazi? Si kila mtu ako na yake? Si wakati wa mtihani utafika?" he asked.
He added: "Mimi nimejenga barabara, nimetengeneza kilimo... ikifika wakati wa kusahihisha mtihani, mimi niko tayari... nikipita mtihani yenu, sawa, nisipopita mtihani yenu, mimi naenda nyumbani kulima.”
Ruto called on his critics to give him space to implement his agenda before passing judgment at the ballot box in 2027.
As part of his Nyeri County tour, the President made several stopovers to inspect and launch various development projects. These included the 468-unit Ruring’u Affordable Housing project in Nyeri Town and the ongoing construction of Ruring’u Stadium.
He also launched the Ksh.325 million Othaya Modern Market, which he said will feature 1,000 stalls, cold storage rooms, and ICT hubs, aiming to boost local trade and entrepreneurship.
