In a unanimous decision on Wednesday, Members of the National Assembly gave the green light to Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot for Cabinet Secretary positions, following their recent vetting.
The duo had appeared before the Committee on Appointments earlier in the week, with the committee’s final report presented to the House on Tuesday. The parliamentary approval was based on this report, in line with Article 152(2) of the Constitution and provisions under the Public Appointments Act.
Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku is set to lead the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Projects, while Hanna Wendot Cheptumo will head the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage.
Their nominations had been made by President William Ruto, with the next step being formal communication to the President for swearing-in, paving the way for them to assume their new roles.
Ruku, who is stepping into a position formerly held by Justin Muturi, emphasized during his vetting that he is committed to impartial service and reform. He expressed a desire to enhance transparency and inclusivity in public sector hiring, promising to align appointments with constitutional requirements for national representation.
He also noted his plans to promote job creation and improve the business environment across the country.
Wendot, the widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, fills a Cabinet seat that had remained vacant since the government overhaul in July 2024. She replaces Aisha Jumwa, who was among those dismissed during that reshuffle.
