During a deeply emotional farewell in Ndori, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga honored his longtime bodyguard, George Oduor, remembering him as an exceptionally devoted and courageous individual.
Raila described Oduor, who served as his personal bodyguard since 1995, as someone whose loyalty and professionalism stood out above most. "There are very few people I’ve met in my life who showed the kind of dedication George did," Raila said. "He wasn’t just a security aide—he was family."
Recalling their time working together, Raila spoke of Oduor’s keen intelligence and sharp instincts, especially when assessing security situations. “He had a quiet demeanor, but he was always thinking ahead. If he told you a place wasn’t safe, you didn’t argue—you moved,” he said.
Contrary to earlier media reports, Raila clarified that Oduor had not worked for his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. He noted that Oduor was recruited directly into his own security team and underwent advanced training in South Africa, Israel, and the United States—always excelling in his classes.
"George was a highly trained professional who could detect danger before it struck. He was among the best at what he did," Raila added.
He also took a moment to appreciate George’s wife, Caren, for the constant support she gave her husband throughout the years. “He always showed up to work looking sharp. That speaks to the care and love he received at home,” he noted.
Oduor, aged 57, passed away on April 2 in Nairobi after a brief illness. He was laid to rest at his family home in Ndori, near Bondo.
