Hamas Confirms Death of Gaza Military Chief Mohammad Sinwar

Hamas has officially confirmed the death of its Gaza military commander, Mohammad Sinwar, months after Israel announced he had been killed in a May airstrike.

In a statement released on Saturday, the group shared images of Sinwar alongside other senior figures, honoring them as “martyrs.”

Mohammad Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ top leader, who co-orchestrated the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat a year later, after which Mohammad rose to a leading position within the organization.

With his death now confirmed, responsibility for Hamas’ armed operations across the Gaza Strip is expected to fall under his close ally, Izz al-Din Haddad, who currently commands forces in northern Gaza.
