CS Murkomen Reveals Insiders Linked to MP Were’s Murder

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that individuals within the inner circle of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were, are believed to have played a role in orchestrating his assassination.

The legislator was gunned down in a shocking attack on the evening of April 30 while caught in traffic in Nairobi. The assailant, reportedly aided by an accomplice on a motorcycle, carried out the killing in what authorities describe as a carefully coordinated strike.

Speaking during a press briefing in Meru, Murkomen disclosed that investigations by security agencies point to betrayal from close quarters.

“Significant progress has been made in identifying and arresting those involved,” he stated. “It’s deeply disturbing to discover that the crime was facilitated by individuals expected to protect the MP’s interests. The suspects will face justice, and their punishment will serve as a stern warning.”

Earlier, police confirmed the arrest of two more suspects in connection with the murder. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified them as Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, alias Abdul Rashid, and Dennis Sewe Munyasi. Following their arrest, the duo led detectives to Odhiambo’s residence, where authorities recovered firearms, a bag, and footwear that match witness descriptions from the crime scene. These items have been sent for forensic analysis.

The two join four other suspects who had already been arraigned in court on Monday. Among those still under investigation is a police officer suspected of playing a pivotal role in the killing.

Authorities now suspect that the assassination may have been the work of a well-financed criminal syndicate, raising broader concerns about organized crime networks operating within political spaces.
